Accuracy of the LTEP estimates for GHG emissions

The Ontario Long Term Energy Plan prepared by the Ministry of Energy estimates that the current GHG(eq) emissions of CO2 amount to approximately 5 million tonnes, and will remain close to that level for many years to come (Figure20). Based on the known consumption of natural gas the current emissions from that source alone can be readily calculated and amount to 105 million tonnes, a figure that will increase to roughly 173 million tonnes by 2036 under the LTEP plan. The LTEP report does not explain how it arrived at its numbers, which appear to be grossly in error.
